Most new MSK problems (injuries, aches and pains) will get better within a few weeks with good self-management. Click here to visit our “Looking after yourself” page to support you with this.
If you need more support, many MSK problems can be treated well in primary care. A great first step is to ask your GP surgery for an appointment with a First Contact Physiotherapist (FCP).
- FCPs are MSK specialists who work in GP practices.
- Most GP surgeries now offer FCP appointments.
- Learn more about FCPs here.
If you need more specialist help, your FCP, GP, nurse or paramedic can refer you to your local MSK service. If you live in Bedfordshire, Greenwich, North Hampshire, Rushcliffe or South & West Hertfordshire, you will be referred to Circle MSK.
Self-referral to Circle MSK services via Phio
- If you live in Bedfordshire, Greenwich, North Hampshire or Rushcliffe and you have a problem with just one body area, you can use our online digital referral tool Phio to refer yourself anytime – no GP appointment needed. Learn more here.
- If you have a problem with more than one body area, self-referral is less effective so it’s always best to make an appointment at your GP surgery.
- If you live in South & West Hertfordshire, self-referral is not available so please book an appointment through your GP surgery.
We are increasingly offering virtual treatment using video calls or apps. This is not right for everyone, but is convenient for many people. If digital care isn’t right for you or your condition, we offer face-to-face care. Please tell your referrer if you are happy to try digital care – you can learn more about our digital options here.
