Digital care for MSK patients

In partnership with the NHS logo

We use digital treatment options such as health apps and video consultations to offer faster access to care while delivering outcomes which match face-to-face treatment. This can be more convenient, especially for those with work or caring responsibilities, or for whom travel to appointments is difficult.

Digital care isn’t right for everyone or every condition so we can offer face-to-face appointments for those who need or prefer them.

Ask your referrer to let us know if you'd be comfortable with digital care, and please make sure that your GP practice has your up-to-date email address and mobile number.

You’re always in control: if you begin with digital care but feel it’s not right for you, just let your care team know and we’ll offer you an alternative option.

Physioline: Fast, expert MSK support via video

Physioline connects you with an experienced MSK clinician through a secure video consultation.  During the appointment the clinician will:

  • Assess your condition
  • Discuss your symptoms
  • Create a personalised exercise plan if appropriate

Your exercise programme will be provided via Physitrack, our trusted exercise platform, giving you easy access to guided exercises and allowing us to track your progress.

Depending on your needs, your clinician may:

  • Schedule a follow-up video call
  • Ask you to get in touch if your symptoms don’t improve

If you need further support – either from the first consultation or the follow-up – we’ll arrange this within the MSK service, such as booking a face-to-face appointment if that’s the best option for you.  We’ll explain your next steps to you,

Joint Academy: Personalised digital physiotherapy at your fingertips

Joint Academy is an app-based physiotherapy programme designed to support you through a 12-week treatment plan tailored to you and your MSK condition. Accessible via your smartphone, tablet, or laptop, it offers the flexibility to complete your rehab anytime, anywhere – ideal for those with busy schedules or limited access to in-person care.

There are no waiting lists so you can usually start treatment within days, beginning with a one-to-one video consultation with a physiotherapist who will then create a personalised programme of exercises and online education tailored to your condition. The app will deliver:

  • One-to-one video consultations with a dedicated physiotherapist
  • Daily exercises and advice (5–10 minutes per day)
  • Quizzes and educational content to deepen your understanding
  • Daily guidance and reminders to keep your recovery consistently on track
  • Ongoing support with direct messaging and mid- and end-of-programme reviews

Your progress is monitored throughout, and your programme can be adjusted based on your feedback – whether you need it to be more challenging or easier.

Virtual APP: In-depth video MSK assessment

For patients whose diagnosis is not clear, we arrange a video appointment with an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner (APP).  They will take a comprehensive history and may ask you to do some particular movements to help make a diagnosis.  If they feel that you need further tests, they can arrange that from this appointment too.
