What happens if you don’t attend an appointment?

In partnership with the NHS logo

If you miss an appointment, it is referred to as a ‘Did Not Attend’ (DNA).

Reducing DNAs helps us to use our clinical time effectively, and means we can reduce waiting times so that patients on our waiting lists can be seen more quickly.

If you can’t attend your appointment, please contact us as soon as possible using the contact details provided in your letter, or you can click here for our details.

  • If you cancel more than 4 working hours before your appointment time, your appointment will be cancelled and offered to another patient.  This will not be classified as a DNA
  • If you contact us within 4 working hours of your appointment, we may be unable to fill the slot, and this will be recorded as a DNA.
  • If you do not attend your appointment without informing us, this will also be recorded as a DNA.
  • Patients who have two recorded DNAs may be discharged from our service.

We will write to you after a DNA to explain the process again; if this was your second DNA you will usually be discharged from our care.

If you require treatment after you’ve been discharged, you will need a new referral. For more information on how to be referred to us, please visit https://cic.circlehealthgroup.co.uk/referrals-to-cic/

Please note that if you DNA an appointment with another provider, such as a hospital, this will be subject to that provider’s own DNA policy which we cannot influence.

Thank you for helping us all reduce waiting times and ensure appointments are available for those who need them.
